Destination Imagination Challenge Event

This series of workshops and build days culminating in a final Challenge Day event will take place twice a year (one Fall/Winter Session and one Spring Session).

Each series will run with between 2 and 4 classes of Grade 9 students.  Each class will create up to 7 teams of 3 - 4 students.

Week 1:  1/2 day teacher training in the Explozone (TOC provided).  This session will include training in the design process, how to foster the 4C's, specifically communication and collaboratrion skills, with students prior to the build day using DI Instant Challenges, and planning the calendar of events for the next 4 weeks.

Week 2:  Teachers begin conversations about the challenge, the 4C's and have students complete a variety of DI instant challenges with debrief.  Helping teachers will do site visits at each school to co-teach challenges at the beginning of the week (as arranged / booked at the first session).

Week 3:  Build day in the Zone for each class (teachers to sign up at week one session).  TOC, bus and materials provided

Week 4:  In-class opportunites to tweak and finalize designs as well as design and practice their presentation.  Helping teachers will do class visits and provide support with the tweaking process.

Week 5:  Challenge Day.  Schools will have selected a morning or afternoon slot for the Challenge Day.  1/2 TOC and bus to and from the venue will be provided.  Morning session will be from 9 - 11am and afternoon session will be from 12 - 2pm.  Two classes will participate in each session.  Schools will arrive, test their designs and then head back to class.  All participants will receive a participation certificate at the end of the session.

Winners for each session will be acknowledge.  Students will participate in a debrief session about the process and what they learned the following day.

Teachers will be asked to submit a reflection of the process and how this might have changed their instructional practice.
